Black Limestone Paving | Overview

Black limestone paving is a strong, slip-resistant, and low-maintenance choice, great for busy outdoor spaces. It comes in a range of sizes and shows off deep black and grey tones with a natural limestone finish.

The Benefits:

Black limestone paving is highly durable and resistant to wear, making it perfect for high-traffic areas. Its natural slip resistance helps keep surfaces safe, even when wet. Plus, black limestone is low maintenance and weathers beautifully over time, maintaining its rich colour and texture with minimal effort.

Colours, Types & Variations:

Black Limestone features a mix black and dark grey tones.

Black Limestone paving is naturally riven but with a smooth sawn surface. We do offer a unique porcelain alternative called Brazilian Black Slate 900x600 Porcelain Paving Slabs, that also features a mixture dark black tones.

Maintenance:

Black limestone is easy to maintain with regular sweeping to remove dirt and debris. Clean it gently using warm water and a mild detergent, avoiding harsh chemicals that can damage the stone. For stubborn stains, use a cleaner made specifically for limestone to keep it looking its best.

Sealing:

Sealing black limestone paving helps protect it from stains, water damage, and weathering. It enhances the stone’s natural color, reduces fading, and makes cleaning easier, keeping your paving looking fresh and vibrant for longer. We recommend you use our professional quality EASYSeal Back to Black Limestone Sealer, available in 1 litre bottles.

Summary:

Black limestone paving is durable, slip-resistant, and low-maintenance, perfect for busy areas. It comes in various sizes and features rich black and grey tones with a smooth, natural limestone finish. Regular sweeping and gentle cleaning keep it looking good, while sealing protects against stains and weathering while further protecting and enhancing its colour overtime.

FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions)

What is Black Limestone?

Black Limestone is a premium natural stone known for its deep, rich black colour with subtle variations in texture and colour tone.

Sourced from India, this durable stone is often used for patios, paths, driveways and garden features.

Does Black Limestone fade?

Black Limestone will naturally fade and soften with age, especially when exposed to direct sunlight and harsh weather conditions. While its colour can change slightly to a pale anthracite tone, it will not fade dramatically like some lighter stones.

We do supply a ‘back to black’ limestone sealer which helps to maintain the appearance of the stone overtime, ensuring the deep black tones dont fade with age.

Does Black Limestone need sealing?

It’s recommended to seal Black Limestone paving using our supplied ‘back to black’ limestone sealer. This will maintain the appearance of the black slabs overtime, adding a level of protection against direct sunlight and natural weathering.

Without regular sealing, be prepared for your black limestone slabs to become a more pale anthracite tone, which some find a more desirable option.

How do I clean Black Limestone?

To clean and maintain Black Limestone, regularly sweep to remove dirt and debris, and clean with a mild detergent and warm water using a soft-bristled brush. For tougher stains, use a stone cleaner or moss remover.

Consider sealing the paving using our ‘back to black’ limestone sealer every 1-2 years to protect it from moisture, stains and natural fading. To prevent weeds from growing between the paved area, apply a weed killer or remove weeds manually as needed. Always avoid harsh chemicals or power washing on high settings to preserve the stone’s surface.

Does Black Limestone heat up in the sun?

The short answer is yes. It’s worth noting that dark colours will heat up more than lighter coloured paving. If you lay the black limestone paving slabs in a suntrap, be prepared for the paving slabs to heat up more quickly than lighter coloured options.

As the black tones hold more heat, this can be ideal for areas that dont get much sun but still used by guests and visitors, adding some warmth to the otherwise cold area.
